FAQ's

I would like to wait until the rain stops. Doesn't the rain make windows dirty?

Rain alone will not dirty a window. Dust and dirt that are carried by the wind, as well as insect and bird droppings will become attached to the window and make it dirty. A clean window will allow the rain the simply sheet off the glass leaving no residue behind. However, if the siding on your home or business is dirty, the rain may carry the dirt to the window surface. If this is the case, we recommend you have your siding pressure washed by Hydroblast Pressure Washing (at 503-752-2361) before you have your windows cleaned. For residential customers, in the event that rain splatters dirt on your windows, a week after we have cleaned them, we will gladly offer you a Rain Check (good for a 5% discount on your next cleaning).

What do you use in your water?

We use a variety of chemicals to meet the needs of the task at hand. Everything from household dish soap, professional solutions or TSP. Our technique makes all the difference.

How often should I have my windows cleaned in my home?

We recommend quarterly, bi-annually or annually. We do offer a water beading / grime fighting cleaning chemical that helps your windows stay cleaner longer.

How much do you charge? Is there a minimum fee?

We charge on a per window pane basis and, generally speaking, we charge $5 per piece of glass (both sides included) for a residential home. That price includes dusting off screens and cleaning the interior tracts. Some windows are dirtier and harder reach than others which means we will have to charge more in those instances. Commercial and new construction prices vary because there are many window varieties and heights that we have to consider before the bid is complete. Gutter cleaning is usually by the hour and, depending on how full they are, sometimes by linear foot (75-95 cents/linear foot). We have a minimum charge of $75 for any and all work that we do.

Do you use razor blades and do they scratch windows?

When it is needed we use razor blades. No, unless there is an extreme abrasion or bend in the blade or there is a tint on the window, razor blades will not scratch glass. Some tempered glass surfaces are highly susceptible to scratching due to contamination with microscopic surface defects called fabrication debris. These scratches have distinct characteristics and should not be confused with other type of scratches. For more information on this topic, refer to:International Window Cleaning Association.

I have a metallic looking film / water spots on inside of my window. What should I do?

More than likely, a seal has broken and you need a new window. Many window companies have a guarantee for their product. Try to find the manufacturers information on or around the window and call them to find out what guarantee they have on their product.

I have water spots on my windows. Where do they come from and what can I do?

Depending on where you live, the water may contain chemicals and minerals that become attached to the surface of the glass, leaving a round, chalky spots on your window. Some instances are easier than others but most of the time will require a rubbing compound or mild acid (which we can do), some #0000 steel wool and a lot of elbow grease. When this approach fails, it is time to buff it out or replace the window. The best way to prevent this from happening is to have us apply a sealant to the windows susceptible to spotting.

Do you install gutters?

At the moment, we only clean them and install Gutter Stuff (refer to Gutter Cleaning section of the website). We are always striving to improve and will, eventually, add this to our list of services.

Will my gutters overflowing cause problems?

Yes. If not maintained on a regular basis overflowing can cause many problems that will require hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of repairs. Dry rot of the facial boards, flooding of basements, leaking behind siding or windows and much more. Depending on where you live, gutter maintenance is a necessity to preserve the value of your property.

Do you have your customers sign contracts?

We have all of our customers sign a work order prior to the start of each project outlining, among other things, our warrenty and terms of payment so we are all on the same page.
